MI vs GT IPL 2023: In the 57th match of IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians has defeated Gujarat Titans by a whooping margin of 27 runs at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Hardik Pandya invited the home team to bat first after winning the toss. Riding on Suryakumar Yadav’s majestic 103*, Mumbai scored 218/5 in 20 overs. In response, GT batters flattered against the mammoth total and could muster just 191/8 in 20 overs. However, it was Rashid Khan’s heroic 79* off 32 balls in the end that has amazed all the fans. The visitors’ attempt to chase was jolted as they lost three wickets within four overs. With the victory, Mumbai Indians now have 12 points and have eased off their chances further of reaching the playoff stage.

GT batters fall flat in tall chase
Coming to chase a mammoth total of 219 runs, Gujarat Titans were off to a start, losing three wickets within the first four overs itself. The first three batters were all dismissed for a single-digit score. Opener Saha scored 2 off 5, while Shubman Gill scored 6 off 9. Skipper Hardik Pandya also fell for a score of 4 runs in 3 balls. At one point, the scorecard read 26/3 in 3.5 overs.
Vijay Shankar tried to capitalise but failed to go big and scored 29 off 14, hitting 6 boundaries. David Miller accompanied him well, scoring 41 off 26 balls, hitting four boundaries and two maximums. However, the fifth wicket also fell at 55 runs in 7.1 overs, jolting all hopes as the middle order couldn’t do big as well.
Abhinav scored 2, and Noor Ahmed scored 1. Star bowler Rashid Khan, however, did not let go easily and played a blistering cameo of 79* in 32 balls, hitting three boundaries and ten maximums. Akash Madhwal picked a three-wicket haul, while Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya picked a couple of wickets each as well. Jason Behrendorff bagged a wicket each too.
Suryakumar Yadav shines with maiden century
Earlier, Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. However, his decision did not go plan as Mumbai Indians batter especially Suryakumar unleashed a batting onslaught. Opener Ishan Kishan scored 31 off 20 balls while skipper Rohit scored 29 off 18 balls. They had a steady opening act and led the charge. In the powerplay, MI scored 61 runs without any loss. However, Rashid struck twice in just the 7th over and dismissed both these openers.
However, Suryakumar then entered the crease at number three. He played for 49 balls and slammed his first-ever IPL century as he continued his golden form. He ended up scoring 103* with 11 boundaries and six maximums. The final ball of the innings ended with a six and completed a much-awaited century of a star batter. Mumbai Indians scored 54 runs in the last three overs. Vishnu Vinod played a quick-fire knock of 30 runs off 20 balls. Rashid Khan picked a four-wicket haul while Mohit Sharma grabbed a wicket as well.
