MI vs PBKS IPL 2023: In the second doubleheader match of 22nd April, Punjab Kings has defeated Mumbai Indians by 13 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Rohit Sharma led the home team won the toss and opted to field first. With brutal hitting from Sam Curran and Harpreet in the end, PBKS scored 215 runs in 20 overs. In response, MI did not have an ideal start but managed to pull it off up to the thriller through some good knocks from the middle order but they fell short by 13 runs as they scored 201/6 in 20 overs. This is MI’s defeat after three back-to-back wins.

MI pulls off an epic chase

Coming to chase a mammoth total of 216 runs, MI did not have an ideal start in the game as they lost opener Ishan Kishan for a score of just 1 run in 4 balls. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front and gave the much-needed start by scoring 44 runs off 27 balls, hitting several memorable shots throughout. In the powerplay, they managed to score 54 runs with a loss of one wicket.

Cameron Green lived up to his price tag yet again and smacked 67 runs off 43 balls, hitting six boundaries and three maximums. However, coming out of the form, Suryakumar Yadav led the charge from thereon and slammed a magnificent 57 off 26 balls, hitting seven boundaries and three maximums. While he was once crease, it appeared that MI would go on to win the match easily.

In the end, 40 runs were required in the last three overs after SKY’s dismissal. However, Tim David then took on the charge from thereon and slammed 25* off 13, hitting two maximums. Just 16 runs were required in the final over but Tilak Verma and Nehal failed to score runs as Arshdeep gave just 2 runs and knocked off the stumps twice. Arshdeep picked four wickets while Nathan and Liam Livingstone grabbed a wicket each.

PBKS’ batting onslaught at end

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first in the clash. They bowled brilliantly until the mid-innings but lost the touch as PBKS scored 96 runs in the last five overs. Opener Matthew Short scored 11 runs off 10 balls while Prabhsimran Singh scored 26 off 17. Atharva Taide scored 29 off 17 and Livingstone was also dismissed 10 off 12 balls.

In the powerplay, they scored 58 runs while losing a wicket. However, after the Livingstone’s wicket, skipper Sam Curran took on the charge. He scored 55 runs off 29 balls, hitting five boundaries and five maximums. Harpreet Singh scored 41 off 28 balls, hitting four boundaries and two maximums. Jitesh Sharma played a quick-fire knock and smashed 25 runs in 7 balls, hitting four maximums. Green and Chawla grabbed a couple of wickets while Arjun, Behrendroff, and Jofra also picked a wicket each as well.
