In the last few years, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been the kryptonite for the Aussies. They have not won a test series against India since 2014-15. With the series expanded to 5 matches now, it is going to be more intense than ever.
The Aussies are desperate for a win. After a humiliating defeat against a weaker Indian side in 2021 in their backyard, the Aussies are eyeing revenge. With less than 100 days left to BGT, the Australian players have been vocal about the series.
In the case of Aussies, no one can know whether they are just desperate for revenge or have started their mind games already. One thing is for sure this series is going to be a spectacle.
Mind Games Or Desperation?
The Australians have been vocal about the series so far. From Pat Cummins to Steve Smith to Nathan Lyon, everyone has spoken about the series and how desperate they want to win it.
Mitchell Starc stated that this BGT will be on par with the Ashes. On the other hand, Lyon expressed his desire to face off against Yashaswi Jaiswal. Australian skipper Pat Cummins strongly stated that he wants to win this series no matter what. After all, this is the only thing he has not won under his captaincy.
“We are probably the 2 best teams at the moment in Tests. India has been great out here in the last couple of times – played excellent cricket, hopefully, we can turn the table. It has been 10 years since we won the last BGT, so need to do that this year.” Smith stated.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Battle For Top
Both India and Australia are at the top of the WTC table currently. With the schedule of both teams, it looks likely that this BGT will be deciding which team will finish on top of the table.
With New Zealand breathing down the necks of Australia, this series might also become crucial for them to qualify for the finals.
