Delhi Capitals bought Steven Smith for Rs 2.2 crore which was just 20 lakhs above his base price of Rs 2 crore.
Delhi Capitals assitant coach Mohammed Kaif has stated that the franchise is very happy to get the Australian veteran for such a cheap price.
“We realised last year when Amit Mishra and Ishant Sharma got injured during the IPL that we need to keep back-up for international players,” said Kaif.
“I thought we were lucky to have him so cheap. We were willing to pay even more for him,” Kaif added.
Steven Smith was the supreme player for Rajasthan Royals but the franchise released him this year when India was touring Australia.
Smith led Rajasthan Royals last year and scored 311 runs in 14 matches with an average of 25.91.
