Mohammed Siraj: Pacer Mohammed Siraj put on a show with the new ball in the series finale between Team India and South Africa on Tuesday, bolstering his selection for the T20 World Cup. Siraj, who previously took over for Jasprit Bumrah in the T20I series against South Africa, has emerged as one of the front-runners to join India’s team for the 2018 ICC T20 World Cup.
In the second One Day International (ODI) against South Africa, pacer Siraj delivered a game-winning performance, helping India tie the series at one game each. Siraj kept things tight for the Proteas’ powerful batting squad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, carrying on his good run with the new ball.
Murali Kartik appreciates Siraj
In the third ODI, Siraj picked up a pair of wickets as Shikhar Dhawan’s Team India crushed South Africa by seven wickets in Delhi. After the game, former Indian cricketer Murali Kartik spoke with the effective bowler in Hyderabadi and showered accolades on Siraj.
“Miyan, kya bowling karte hain aap! Hyderabadi mein, Sahi bola? (You’ve been bowling good lately! Did I say Hyderabadi correctly?),” Kartik questioned Siraj. Before going on to his performance in the ODI series, he said, “Bilkul Sir, (Absolutely Sir).” Due to his outstanding bowling performance against the Proteas, pacer Siraj was awarded the Player of the Series. “Performing against a good team gives you a lot of confidence. I had to take the responsibility. I try to figure out the right lengths at the start of the innings. As a fast bowler you need that fire and passion inside you. Happy with my performance, and happy to get this Player of the Series award,” Siraj concluded.
For Dhawan and company in the three-match series against South Africa, the Indian bowler claimed 5 wickets. Siraj’s bowling prowess has Team India struggling to make the right selections for the T20 World Cup. The two front-runners to replace injured pacer Bumrah in India’s World Cup roster are Siraj and Mohammed Shami.
