MS Dhoni: Thala to retire after IPL 2023 and join team India for a BIG role, says reports

MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni: The humiliating exit of Team India from the T20 World Cup in 2022 surprised a lot of people. In order to add the specialised ability required for that ambitious style of cricket in ICC games, the BCCI is now considering to add MS Dhoni to the T20 team in some role. Dhoni served as a temporary member of the team’s support staff while the World Cup was being contested in the UAE last year.

Dhoni, who captained India to three ICC titles, is known for his skills at playing and captaincy roles. The BCCI should “swallow pride” and “look to England for inspiration,” according to Michael Vaughan, a former England captain.

MS Dhoni to retire after IPL 2023: Sources

As per the sources, Dhoni is likely to retire after IPL 2023. So, before Dhoni quits from the game after the IPL in the next year, the BCCI wants to make the most of his experience and skills. Rahul Dravid, the head coach, may be asked to work with a group of players with specialised skills since managing three forms is proving to be too difficult for him.

As per the reports, “There has been talk in the BCCI about including a Mahendra Singh Dhoni in some capacity with the T20 side to bring in the expert skill for that fearless brand of cricket in ICC tournaments.”

Dilip Vengsarkar, a former captain and chief selector who was in charge of the BCCI’s now-defunct Talent Research Development Wing, was crucial in helping to find talents like MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni to be the coach?

If the BCCI wants to follow the ECB model, the team needs to be rebuilt right away. In June 2024, the West Indies and the USA will co-host the next T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya will soon be chosen as the permanent T20 captain, but the BCCI hasn’t decided whether to name a separate coach for the shortest format.

The issue might be discussed at the apex meeing later this month. Additionally, requests for the coaches’ positions to be divided have been made. Its primary goal will be to pick the newly reorganised selection panel, thus the establishment of the Cricket Advisory Committee will take a back seat.
