Mukesh Kumar didn’t know about his selection in India team till he was added to the Indian team’s official Whatsapp Group. That’s when he got to know that he was selected for the one day series against South Africa, starting from October 6 in Lucknow. Mukesh told PTI, “I got very emotional after seeing the message. It was all blur. I could only remember my father late Kashi Nath Singh’s face. My father didn’t think I am good enough to play professionally till I played Ranji Trophy for Bengal. Unko shak tha ki main kaabil hoon bhi ya nahi.”
His father wants him to get a government job
Mukesh lost his father to a brain stroke and it was before Ranji finals. He got the train in the morning and spent his time beside his father’s bed in the hospital. “Today my mom had tears in her eyes and she was very emotional. Everyone started crying.”

Mukesh appeared for CRPF exam thrice as his father wants him to get a government job. But Mukesh is now employed with CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General Office). He has been Bengal’s most consistent fast bowler and he played very well in the Test match against New Zealand “A” and Irani cup, it took him to play in Team India. Mukesh said on his selection, “You can have everything as God’s gift but if you don’t put effort in it then it’s just a time waste. Life is all about learning new things. I want it till I play cricket.”
