Rahmanullah Gurbaz: Sometimes, the dedication of players can shock you. It can make you emotional and question your motivation and dedication towards your own goal. Because that is what you have to be to achieve your dream.
Whenever there is a choice between family and duty, very few people are strong enough to choose duty. But everyone who does choose duty becomes a legend in their own field, and everyone knows their name.
Afghanistan cricketer Rahmanullah Gurbaz has just done that as he joins the KKR camp while his mother is still in hospital. He knew that his team needed him and without any hesitation, he took the next flight and joined the squad.
A Tough Call
With Sakt arriving and him not getting chances in playing 11, he left India for his hometown to Afghanistan to be with his mother. He wanted to be with the camp but had to attend his mother in the middle of the tournament.
10-days ago, he got a call from Kolkata’s management who told him that Phil Salt had gone back to England for national duties. Gurbaz packed his bags with no hesitation as he decided to join back the squad.
It was hard for him to leave his ailing mother, but he took her blessings and decided to participate in the IPL playoffs. And he did that with style as he scored 23 runs in just 15 deliveries to give KKR a blistering start.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz: ‘My Family Needed Me’
In the post-match interview, Gurbaz stated “My mother is still recovering in the hospital, I speak to her every day. But I knew my KKR family needed me here once Phil Salt left. So I came back from Afghanistan, and I’m happy to be here. My mother is happy for me too.”
