Despite being injured and not in any sort of rhythm, Neeraj Chopra made an incredible comeback at the Lausanne Diamond League to secure a silver medal. It was an impressive outing given the situation.
It was an incredible comeback as Neeraj was not even in medal contention till the 5th throw. He was in the fourth spot by the end of the fourth round and was on the verge of elimination without even making the top 3.
But a stellar throw of 85.58 meters in his fifth attempt leapfrogged him to third position and qualified for the sixth and final attempt. Only the top three after five rounds get their respective final attempts.

Even after such a disappointing showing in the first five throws where he was only able to cross the 85-meter mark once, Neeraj produced his season’s best by 4 centimeters.
He broke his Paris Olympics 2024 record to register the second-best throw of his career. With a throw of 89.49 meters, Neeraj bagged the silver medal as Grenada’s Anderson Peters won the gold with a throw of 90.61 meters.
In the post-match interview, Neeraj accepted that he was struggling at the start. “The feeling wasn’t great at first, but I´m happy with my throw, especially the second (career) best throw on my last attempt. It was a tough start, but the comeback was nice and I enjoyed the fighting spirit I showed.”

Since winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Neeraj has participated in 20 tournaments, and not once did he finish outside the Top 2. These are some incredible numbers and a testament to Neeraj’s commitment and determination.
Fans were ecstatic after the win and congratulated their golden boy while hoping for a 90-meter throw soon.
