World Athletics Championship 2023: The golden boy of India has struck again and this time at the biggest possible stage. Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal at the Men’s Javelin final and scripted history.
He marked his dominance on the world stage after this amazing performance and showed his ultimate determination. He has etched his name in history and has proven why he is the best athlete in our country.
Neeraj had a mammoth task of defeating Commonwealth champion Arshad Nadeem to win the gold. And after a bad start, it looked even more challenging. But just like always, Neeraj rose in the time of adversity and gave his best. Kishore Jena and DP Manu also finished in the top eight.
A Phenomenal Performance
The Olympic gold medalist did not have an ideal start and was only able to throw 79 meters. Even Neeraj was not happy with his throw and decided not to register it as he forced the foul himself.
It was like the pride of the nation knew he would come back stronger. And with the crowd on his back, he threw 88.17m, 86.32m, 84.64m, 87.73m and 83.98m consecutively. It was enough to land him the gold medal.
Commonwealth Gold medalist Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan won the silver medal with a throw of 87.82 meters. Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic swept up the bronze with an 86.67-meter throw.
History At World Athletics Championship 2023
With this victory, Neeraj became the first Indian athlete to win gold at this tournament. He also became the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to hold Olympics and World Championships medals together.
Only two other javelin throwers have achieved this feat before and with Neeraj already qualifying for Paris Olympics in 2024, he can create another historic moment if he wins there.
