ICC: England has dropped from the top spot in the most recent ICC rankings after losing the ODI series to Australia by a score of 3-0. Having switched places with England in September, New Zealand is now in first place.
England had 119 rating points before the series began, five more than the Kiwis, and was clearly in first place. However, after three straight defeats, they dropped six points, falling six points short of New Zealand’s 113 total and falling behind.
Australia moves up with clean sweep
A reward has also been given to Australia for its outstanding performance. Australia has moved up to number four with 112 points, surpassing Pakistan, who are currently ranked fourth with 107 points, after claiming their first ODI series victory under new skipper Pat Cummins.
Furthermore, it implies that Australia and India have the same number of rating points. With 3802 total points, the latter are in third place, three points ahead of Australia. While Australia was supposed to play South Africa for the ODI Super League points, it appears that match will not take place. India’s next ODI series is against Bangladesh.
England have a chance to reclaim the spot
In a three-match away series against the Proteas in January 2023, the English have a chance to reclaim the top spot in the One Day International rankings. The initial plan was to play the series in December 2020.
Jos Buttler, the captain of the visiting team who led them to their second T20 World Cup victory, has called for better series scheduling to keep ODI cricket relevant.
