Neymar: Brazil, the most decorated squad in FIFA World Cup history, will not be adding a sixth championship in Qatar this year. The five-time champions, who have appeared in every edition of the competition and are the only team to do so, have been eliminated from the competition.

Brazil lost to Croatia in the penalty shootout

When Croatia, the losing finalists from the previous tournament, upset them in the quarterfinal encounter on Friday, the South Americans experienced an unexpected and somewhat humbling elimination from the FIFA World Cup 2022. The game concluded 1-1 after 90 minutes of regular time and 30 minutes of added overtime at the Education City Stadium, and the European team defeated the No. 1 team in the world 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

No one was prepared for Brazil’s loss as they were considered the favourites for the championship this year in Qatar and had not dropped a game in more than a year, but they played below par against Croatia and were eliminated in the quarterfinals for the fourth time in the previous five tournaments.

Neymar ‘s statement takes fan by surprise

Neymar, Brazil’s top player who scored his 77th goal for the squad against Croatia on Friday, has intimated that his playing days for the Brazil national team may be coming to an end following Brazil’s elimination. The 30-year-old, who participated in the World Cup for the third time in a row this year, claimed he could not “100%” guarantee that he will play for the Selecao once more.

After his team’s elimination from the 2022 World Cup, Brazil’s joint-leading goal scorer said “I am not closing any doors on the national team, but I am also not guaranteeing 100 percent that I will return. I need to think a bit more about this, about what is right for me and for the national team.”
