NZ vs AUS: In the opening match of the Super-12 round on Saturday, New Zealand defeated Australia by 89 runs, thanks in large part, to a remarkable 92 not out off 58 balls from Devon Conway. The Blackcaps scored 201 for 3 in 20 overs at the Sydney Cricket Ground before bowling Australia out for 111 runs in 17.1 overs. Mitchell Santner recorded stats of 3 for 31 and Tim Southee took 3 wickets for 6 runs. It is important to note that this is Australia’s biggest loss in the T20 World Cup in terms of runs.
For the first time since 2011, New Zealand won a game on Australian soil.
Allen and Conway’s first wicket partnership resulted in an opening partnership off 56 runs in just 25 balls. Finn smacked 42 runs off 16 balls. The second wicket partnership between Conway and skipper Kane Williamson was then a productive one, scoring 69 runs (23). James Neesham contributed a 13-ball score of 26 to New Zealand’s successful conclusion. In just 24 balls, Conway and Neeshan combined for a fourth-wicket partnership of 48 runs that remained unbroken.
