NZ vs ENG: In the second Test between England and New Zealand, the English team faced an unexpected defeat despite being in a strong position at one point. The wicket of Ben Foakes was the biggest reason for their defeat.
Foakes’ Wicket Shatters England’s Hopes of Victory
When England needed only 7 runs to win, Ben Foakes was at the crease with 35 runs while Jake Lees had scored 0 runs and the team had already lost 8 wickets. With Foakes on the crease, England was confident of victory. However, Foakes attempted a big shot on Saudi’s short-pitched ball but ended up hitting it in the air. Wagner took a great catch while jumping in the air, and Foakes had to go back. This resulted in England losing the match.
Ben Foakes’ Heroics Not Enough to Secure Victory for England
England’s front batsmen couldn’t contribute much, and they lost their last wicket with only 6 runs to go. Despite looking poised for a resounding victory, England ended up facing defeat in the match. In contrast, New Zealand, who were on the backfoot at one point, won the match.
