ODI World Cup 2023: Teams are acting fast now, with the biggest cricket tournament starting in two months. Even though the tournament is two months away, the squad submission is mere weeks away.
Australia is the only team that has announced their squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 so far. Defending champions England are also looking to announce their squad by Friday, but they are looking at some tweaks before that.
According to England coach Matthew Mott, England is looking and hopeful for Ben Stokes to take back his retirement for the tournament. They are also counting on Jofra Archer for the upcoming festival of cricket.
Clutch Man For ODI World Cup 2023
According to Matthew Mott, English white ball skipper, Jos Buttler will talk with Ben Stokes about his comeback. He further stated that Ben Stokes has been clear with the staff that he does not want to return.
But Jos will talk with the Test skipper, and the staff is hopeful. The coach further clarified that Stokes’ presence in Ashes 2023 was great. And he has done it for years for the English cricket team.
Stokes played a major role in England’s triumph in 2019. And the team recognizes that and is ready to let Stokes play as a pure batsman only as the test skipper is scheduled to undergo long overdue knee surgery.
The Pace Attack
England Cricket Board also hopes their pace merchant Jofra Archer will return to full fitness before the World Cup. They want the ruthless pacer to be part of their squad, as he can be a real game-changer.
Jofra sustained a recurrence of a stress fracture on his elbow which was revealed back in May 2023. He was scheduled to miss the entire summer and missed Ashes 2023 as well.
