ODI World Cup 2023: With ODI World Cup 2023 starting really soon, every expert and professional player is sharing their views on the tournament. Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has also come out in the same fashion and has slammed Rohit Sharma.
Shoaib Akhtar called the Indian skipper the most talented player in the world but also raised questions about his captaincy. He compared Rohit to former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and how he is different from him.
He did not discredit Rohit Sharma completely but stated that the Indian skipper might not be cut out for captaincy. Akhtar further stated that he wants to be proved wrong and hopes that Rohit will be able to do that.
Not Cut Out For Captaincy
Shoaib Akhtar stated that Rohit Sharma is the most talented player he has ever seen. He even stated that the Indian opener is even more talented than Virat Kohli. He stated that Rohit Sharma is a classical batsman.
But at the same time, he questioned whether the 5-time IPL winner is cut out for captaincy. He further stated that Rohit Sharma panics in crucial situations. He did not end there as he had more things to say.
“There was once a guy who would take the entire team’s pressure upon himself – that was Dhoni. Only a captain can shield the entire team behind him. Rohit is a great guy, but he cripples during captaincy, he panics. These might be harsh words, but I don’t think he should have taken up the captaincy.” The Rawalpindi Express stated.

Even after all the remarks, Akhtar stated that he wants to be proven wrong. According to him, Rohit has all the talent and crowd behind him and is sure he has the ability to prove everyone wrong. But also stated that India crumbled after 2013 as Virat Kohli was over-aggressive and Rohit Sharma panics.
