Co-host Oman thrashed Papua New Guinea in the opening match of the T20 World Cup to take an early lead the points table in Round 1.
After being sent to bat first PNG lost two wickets without scoring a single run but later Assad Vala (56 off 43) and Charles Amini (37 off 26) added 81 runs for the third wicket.
Oman skipper Zeeshan Maqsood scalped four wickets to in his 4 overs quota that helped his team to restrict PNG to 129/9 in 20 overs.
Chasing a paltry target for victory, Oman openers Jatinder Singh (73 off 42) and Aaqib Ilyas (50 off 43) barely looked under pressure. They were solid rather than flashy during the powerplay and took Oman to 46 runs after the powerplay.
The openers were not out till the end and added 131 runs for the first wicket to take their side to glory in the tournament opener.
