Alex Sanchez: Taking the spotlight on Wednesday, August 9, Alex Sanchez, the Spanish football sensation, marked his much-awaited entry into Indian football. The stage for his debut was set during Gokulam Kerala’s inaugural match of the season, where they faced off against the Indian Air Force. An extraordinary aspect of Sanchez’s journey is that he was born without a right hand, yet he has defied the odds and showcased remarkable prowess in the competitive realm of football, skillfully overcoming apparent challenges.

Alex Sanchez’s professional career

On July 31, the 34-year-old striker was signed by Gokulam Kerala on a free transfer for the next football season. He was in the starting lineup against Indian Air Force on Wednesday during the club’s inaugural Durand Cup 2023 match, as was to be expected. He entered Indian football history as the first player to ever play with a special ability with his appearance.

At the age of 15, he joined the Real Zaragoza C squad in Spain. In 2009, he made his debut in the La Liga. European juggernauts Barcelona and Real Madrid compete in La Liga, which continues to be one of the world’s most renowned and fiercely contested competitions. So, getting the chance to compete against players like Lionel Messi, Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and many others was a historic event for the league and the player himself.

Additionally, he made appearances for the Spanish teams CD Tudelano, CD Teruel, CA Osasuna Promesas, Utebo FC, and CA Osasuna. He played competitive football for 381 games overall, scoring 177 goals as a natural striker. He is now set to light up the I-League, India’s second-tier football league. AlexSanchez joining Gokulam Kerala’s attack has given them a strong starting point for the forthcoming season. The club’s president, VC Praveen, downplays any discussion of the player’s deformity and asserts that the striker would perform admirably this year.
