The Indian men’s and women’s football team has been given permission by the Sports Ministry to participate in the upcoming Asian Games 2023 to be held in China. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur tweeted this information. In this, he also mentioned the recent performance of the Indian football team and has given permission to participate in the Asian Games by relaxing the rules.
Stimac, the coach of the Indian football team, had written a letter to the Sports Ministry a few days back seeking permission to allow the team to play in the upcoming Asian Games. According to the rules of the Sports Ministry, both the men’s and women’s football teams of India could not participate in the Asian Games till now. The reason behind this is that both the teams are not even included in the top-8 in FIFA’s Asian football rankings.
Now after seeing his recent performance, the Sports Ministry has decided to give him a special exemption. In a tweet by India’s Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, he wrote that it is good news for Indian football lovers that both our national teams men and women will be seen playing in the upcoming Asian Games. The Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of India, has decided to relax the rules regarding the participation of both the teams. The ministry has taken this decision keeping in mind their good performance in recent times. I am sure that now the teams will do well in the Asian Games.
