After nearly six months of negotiations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to reach a consensus on a hybrid model for the upcoming cricketing events. As per a report from PTI, Pakistan will serve as the host for all non-India matches, while Sri Lanka will be responsible for hosting the highly anticipated India-Pakistan fixtures as well as India’s Super 4 matches. The report further states that Pakistan will travel to India for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, putting any concerns aside about playing matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
As per a board member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the hosting quandary was resolved by Pankaj Khimji, the chief of Oman Cricket Board, following objections from participating nations against the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hybrid model. It was disclosed that Lahore’s Gadaffi Stadium will host matches including Pakistan vs Nepal, Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh. Additionally, two India vs Pakistan matches and four Super 4 matches will take place either in Galle or Pallekele.
Will Pakistan participate in World Cup 2023?
Following a recent visit to Pakistan by ICC’s chief Geoff Alardice, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached an agreement to participate in the ICC 2023 World Cup without imposing any pre-conditions. It is anticipated that the electrifying India-Pakistan encounters will be held in Ahmedabad, while Chennai and Bengaluru are set to host Pakistan’s remaining fixtures.
