ICC: After securing a convincing 3-0 win against Afghanistan’s National Cricket Team, Pakistan’s National Cricket Team has risen to the top position in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings. This achievement has led the Men in Green to the No. 1 spot among ODI teams, setting the stage for their participation in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.
Pakistan secures top spot in ICC ODI Ranking
Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, the Pakistani team secured a commanding victory against the Afghan team, triumphing by a margin of 59 runs in the final ODI of the three-match series held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, August 26. As a result of their comprehensive performance and a clean sweep of the ODI series, Pakistan’s standing in the ICC rankings experienced an upward surge.
Surpassing Australia, Pakistan secured the top position in the 50-over format rankings. Prior to the ODI series, Pakistan held the second spot with 115.8 rating points, whereas Australia was leading with 118 rating points. However, Pakistan’s 3-0 victory propelled them to the top spot with a rating of 118.48.
Presently, team India holds the third position in the ODI team rankings with 113 rating points. The Men in Blue secured a 2-1 series victory against the West Indies in their recent matches in the Caribbean Islands.
Pakistan clean sweeps Afghanistan
Commencing the ODI series on a strong footing, Pakistan ecured a convincing 142-run triumph against Hashmatullah Shahidi’s squad. Pakistan’s fast bowlers dominated, dismantling Afghanistan’s lineup for a mere 59 runs in the series opener held in Hambantota.
Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the team achieved a thrilling 1-wicket win in the second ODI. Pakistan successfully chased down the 301-run target with just one ball to spare. It’s worth noting that Pakistan maintained a clean record, clinching victory in all six ODI encounters against Afghanistan.
