Naseem Shah – MS Dhoni: Pakistan cricketer Naseem Shah had a moment of recognition on Saturday, reminiscent of the legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni. Similar to Dhoni, Shah has now joined the forces of his country and has been appointed as the Honorary Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Balochistan Police. The young fast bowler was honoured with this appointment in a ceremony held at the IG Balochistan Police Office in Quetta, where he was formally outfitted in a police uniform and received his official rank.

Naseem Shah reacts to his appointment

As the Goodwill Ambassador of the Balochistan Police, Shah brings not only his athletic talent but also his passion for serving his community to this new role. This appointment is a testament to his dedication and hard work, and it is sure to inspire many young people in Pakistan and around the world.

Naseem Shah said, “As a child, I had been scared of policemen. My parents would scare me by mentioning the police. However, as I have grown up. I have come to realise the sacrifices they make to keep us safe.” He continued further by stating, “They don’t just put their lives at risk for us, but I have a far more simple example of their service. Those appointed with us at the NCA stay awake at night to protect us. I cannot even function if I do not get a good night’s rest. I have immense respect for the police and am deeply grateful for their assistance.”

Indian players who are in armed forces

MS Dhoni – Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army: The former Indian cricket captain, MS Dhoni, holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion).

Kapil Dev: The 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, is a renowned name in Indian cricket and requires no introduction. In 2008, Kapil joined the Territorial Army and was later awarded the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the army.

Sachin Tendulkar: Sachin Tendulkar, widely known as the “Master Blaster,” joined the Indian Air Force with the rank of Group Captain in 2010. He became the first sportsperson to receive this honor and the first person without an aviation background to hold such a high rank. Since then, Tendulkar has become the face of the Indian Air Force for the youth.

Apart from them, the hero of 2007 T20 World Cup, Joginder Sharma too joined the police forces soon after the tournament was over. Several other cricketers are in numerous government jobs such as KL Rahul in the Reserve Bank of India.
