It was just a matter of 100 grams that resulted in bliss for Aman Sehrawat and tragedy for Vinesh Phogat at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Paris Olympics 2024: It was a matter of 100 grams that resulted in bliss on one side and dejection on the other. Aman Sehrawat made the weight by 100 grams while Vinesh Phogat failed to make the weight by 100 grams on the final day.

On one hand, Aman got to play his bronze medal match and win it because of that 100 grams. On the other, Vinesh was suspended from a historic final because of that mere 100 grams.

Who knew that a matter of just 100 grams would be this instrumental in both these wrestlers? But what went down on the night that Aman and his team safely shed 4.6 kg of weight while Vinesh and her team were not able to shed that 2.4kg extra weight?

‘I Haven’t Eaten’

Aman opened up about his process of shedding those last 4 kgs which began with a one-and-a-half mat session. The Indian wrestler engaged in standing wrestling which was followed 1-hour bath session.

Around 12:30 AM, Aman shifted to the gym and did a one-hour run on the treadmill non-stop. He was not done as after a short break it was once again time for the Sauna bath and even that was not enough as Aman was still 900 grams over the limit.

The youngest Indian medal winner then had to undergo light jogging and running sessions. After 10 hours of exhaustive efforts, the scale tipped in the favor of the Indian camp as Aman weighed 56.9 kg, just 100 grams under the weight limit.

Paris Olympics 2024: Vinesh Tragedy

It was not like Vinesh did not work hard. She did all those things to an extreme level but still failed to make the weight. This is where human anatomy comes in. It was also clear that Vinesh was fighting in a lower weight category than her usual.

Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia also made it clear that shedding weight is harder for a female wrestler as compared to their male counterparts. The main reason is that female wrestlers sweat less than male.
