Paris Olympics 2024: It was a freak show at the Javelin throw final. In the last Olympics, Neeraj won the medal with a throw of 88 meters. But this time that would have placed him on third.
Neeraj threw his second career best with 89.44 meters but it was still not enough to get them that Gold medal. That medal was won by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem who did something no one expected.
It was Nadeem’s freak show which broke down the Olympic record not once but twice on the same day. He created an Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters and then he broke down the 90 meters barrier once again.
This is the fourth medal for Pakistan in the Olympic games and overall he is the third athlete to win a medal for Pakistan in individual events.
Arshad Nadeem Freak Show
Both Arshad and Neeraj fouled their first throw but came back strongly in their second throw. Neeraj threw his season-best throw in his second attempt meanwhile Arshad broke down the Olympic record.
It was an unreal event as 6 out of the top 8 contenders broke down the 87-meter mark which makes it one of the highest-scoring finals ever. And the Asian duo of Nadeem and Chopra were at the top of the table.
It is a proud moment for the sub-continent as two Asian flags would be on the top of the world. Furthermore, Arshad broke down the 90-meter barrier twice as his last throw was also 91 meters.
Paris Olympics 2024: Immortal Neeraj
Neeraj Chopra has now become the fifth Indian athlete to win multiple medals in Summer Games. He has joined the likes of Sushil Kumar, P.V. Sindhu, and Manu Bhaker.
Norman Pritchard is also on this list as he was a citizen of British India and was the first Indian technically to win multiple medals. The Paris Olympics 2024 has been somehow cursed for India as Neeraj’s winning throw was only able to get him silver after that freak throw by Nadeem.
