Paris Olympics 2024: After the Vinesh Phogat debacle, everyone knows how excruciating weight loss can be. It is a matter of hard work, determination, and even madness to a certain extent.
Because losing excessive weight in just one night is not fit for the human body. After his semifinal bout with Rei Higuchi, Aman Sehrawat had to face another pressing issue. He was 4.5 kilograms over the weight limit.
He had to shrug past his disappointment of losing the semifinal bout and get back to work. The match with Rei Higuchi concluded at around 6:30 PM, giving Sehrawat almost 14 hours to shed that 4.6kg weight.
‘I Haven’t Eaten’
Aman opened up about his process of shedding those last 4 kgs which began with a one-and-a-half mat session. The Indian wrestler engaged in standing wrestling which was followed 1-hour bath session.
Around 12:30 AM, Aman shifted to the gym and did a one-hour run on the treadmill non-stop. He was not done as after a short break it was once again time for the Sauna bath and even that was not enough as Aman was still 900 grams over the limit.
The youngest Indian medal winner then had to undergo light jogging and running sessions. After 10 hours of exhaustive efforts, the scale tipped in the favor of the Indian camp as Aman weighed 56.9 kg, just 100 grams under the weight limit.
Paris Olympics 2024: No Sleep
The case of Vinesh Phogat was a constant in Aman’s camp and it was a tense environment. Coach Dahiya stated “We kept checking his weight every hour. We didn’t sleep the whole night, not even during the day.”
But after so much hardwood, perseverance, and determination the camp succeeded and Aman made sure that their efforts did not go in vain. As he became the youngest Indian medal winner at the Summer Games beating out PV Sindhu.
