Paris Olympics 2024: Women’s pistol shooting star Manu Bhaker became the only athlete to be picked in two individual events for the upcoming Olympics event as the National Shooting Federation announced the 15-member Indian rifle and pistol team.
India has obtained 16 quotas(8 each in rifle and pistol events). As Manu Bhaker will compete in two events, the NRAI will exchange the freed-up quota place in the pistol category for shotgun events.
The shotgun team will be announced following the conclusion of the ISSF World Cup in Lonato on June 18. India obtained 5 quotas for shotgun events, and with the freed-up space, NRAI is looking to add one more athlete. It will be as per the ISSF rules.
Paris Olympics 2024: A Star-Studded Team
Apart from Manu Bhaker who will take part in the 10m air pistol and the women’s 25m pistol, rifle shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Anjum Moudgil, and Elavenil Valarivan will return for their second Olympic Games.
The remaining 11 athletes will make their debut on the Olympic stage. The Asian Games gold medalists, Sift Kaur Samra and Esha Singh are also part of the Indian contingent.
Rhythm Sangwan makes up the three-women pistol team alongside Manu and Esha Singh.
World Champion Not Selected!
Former World Champion Rudrankksh Patli was left out alongside Tokyo Olympian Divyansh Singh Panwar. Asian Games medalist Ashi Chouksey also failed to cut.
But Asian Games champions Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema make this contingent a very strong one. India will field five mixed teams in the Paris Olympics 2024.
All eyes are on the shotgun team now that will be announced after the ISSF World Cup. Additionally, Indian rifle and pistol teams are in a training camp in Volmerange-Les-Mines, France.
