Paris Olympics 2024: While the whole of India sighed in relief, Harmanpreet Singh roared so loudly that the whole world came deaf. It was such a surreal moment as India stunned the Rio 2018 World Champions in sensational fashion.
After securing a win for India in the last minute on Saturday, Harmanpreet forced Argentina to share a point. Inda was on the back foot and was trailing for 58 minutes of the match.
But a rocket penalty corner goal by Harmanpreet Singh earned India their first draw against Argentina after 20 years. It was not only a sensational goal but also a historic goal that will be remembered for very long.
What A Goal!
India was trailing against the Rio Champions till the 58th minute. A silly mistake by Sirjesh allowed Argentina to take the lead against the Blues. And after that, they were able to hold the fort intact.
India kept on attacking with barrages of attack but the defense of Argentina was rock solid. Their goalkeeper Lucas Martinez was bigger than usual in goal and kept denying the Indian forwards.
But with just two minutes left in the fourth quarter, India received a vital penalty corner. Harmanpreet decided to change the tactic and attacked the top right corner instead of the bottom one.
The trick worked as the thunderous shot tore apart Argentina’s defense and equalized for the Blues.
Paris Olympics 2024: Tough Road Ahead
India is in the group of death in the Paris Olympics 2024. That is why every point they can get is essential. India will now face Ireland on Tuesday, who were sensational against the mighty Australia.
Harmanpreet would like a better performance from his midfield which includes vice-captain Hardik Singh and Manpreet Singh. Both of them need to perform if India wants to progress from the pool stage.
