Paris Olympics 2024 has already seen lots of controversies since its opening ceremony three days ago. There were controversies regarding its opening ceremony, and now even some events are getting under scrutiny.
Indian star shuttler Lakhsya Sen became the centerpiece of another controversy when his win against Kevin Cordon was ‘deleted’ from the considerations for final standings. The decision was announced by the Badminton World Federation(BWF).
While the decision has nothing to do with Sen and will have no impact on the group stages, fans are curious. There are also various questions on the internet regarding the unfairness of the decision.
Victory Deleted
This decision by BWF came after Kevin Cordon withdrew himself from the Paris Olympics 2024. The Guatemalan player suffered an elbow injury while playing against Lakshya.
The Indian star shuttler defeated Cordon in straight sets with a scoreline of 21-8, 22-20. It was a straight victory and gave a lot of confidence to Sen considering Cordon reached the semi-final in Tokyo Olympics.
But as BWF stated, the victory will not stand. This comes because the remaining of Cordon’s matches in Group L will not be played. BWF said that matches on these courts in each respective session have been rescheduled.
Paris Olympics 2024: Unfair?
While fans may think that this is unfair, in reality, it is not. Because BWF has not only deleted Lakshya’s match but also all the matches of Cordon in Group L. Lakshay had to defeat Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie and Julien Carraggi of Belgium previously. And now he has to do the same. So, it is business as usual.
