Paris Olympics 2024: After a heartbreaking start to the campaign, the Indian contingent has picked up the pace and we are underway. Manu Bhaker started the winning streak for the Blues when she qualified for the women’s 10m air pistol final.
After that, it was a jolly good day for the Indian athletes. Following Manu, rower Balraj Panwar finished fourth in the first heat of men’s single sculls. He will now compete in the repechage round where he will have a chance to still make the quarterfinals.
Lakshya Sen and the duo of Satwik-Chirag kept the winning streak going as they won their first match in the badminton event. Harmeet Desai also won his first-round match against Zaid Aman to qualify for the next round of table tennis events.
But it was the Indian hockey team that stole a headline with a miraculous comeback against New Zealand. It was a sensational match where the Men In Blues did not lose hope even after going down.
A Thunderous Comeback
The Indian team went behind in the first quarter itself as the Kiwis made a sensational attack to score their goal. But Mandeep Singh equalized for the Blues on the brink of the second quarter.
The happiness was doubled when Vivek put India into the lead. It was a crucial moment as even the umpires had to take the help of the referral to achieve the goal. But this was short-lived as the Kiwis equalized with only seven minutes to go.
The Men In Blues did not lose hope and kept on attacking. The barrage of attacks was fruitful as India was awarded a penalty stroke right before the end and Harman made no mistake to guide India towards a remarkable victory.
Paris Olympics 2024: Tough Road Ahead
This victory is much welcome as the road for the Men In Blues is not easy. They are in the group of death with the likes of Australia, Argentina, and Belgium still in the mix.
Other than India, Australia and Belgium have started their hockey campaign with a victory.
