Paris Olympics 2024: After getting forced to take a short break because of a niggle, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will resume his training. He is eyeing his second consecutive Olympic gold medal and would like to get rid of the rustiness.
Chopra will be back in action at Paavo Nurmi Games on Tuesday against a very solid competition. He will be the lone Indian national here and will face some stellar challengers including Oliver Helander and Max Dehning.
The current World Champion last competed in this tournament in 2022, where he grabbed himself a silver medal. But it was here only, that Chopra got close to that 90-meter mark with an 89.30m throw.
Eyeing Paris Olympics 2024!
Neeraj Chopra’s last professional tournament was the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar. Where he secured the gold but his performance was quite underwhelming according to his standards.
The golden boy of India was only able to reach 82.27m as his best throw. He then opted out of the National Inter-State Athletics in Panchkula, to avoid a hectic schedule ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024.
But, Chopra withdrew from the Ostrava Golden Spike last month as a precautionary measure. He had a niggle in his adductor and did not take any risks. He would like to get rid of the rustiness here and get back to his high 85m throws once again.
Tough Competition
The Paavo Nurmi Games will present a tough competition to Chopra. He will be against the 19-year-old German Prodigy Max Dehning. Dehning became the youngest athlete to touch the 90m mark, something that Neeraj desires.
Finland’s local star Oliver Helander defeated Chopra in 2022 in the same competition and once again will be a huge threat. Two-time World Champion Anderson Peters will also be one to look out for.
