Paris Olympics 2024: Manika Batra has been on fire this season. Firstly, she became the first Indian table tennis player to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympics followed by Sreeja Akula.
And now the team of Sreeja Akula, Manika Batra, and Archana Kamath made history in the team event. It was a grueling match where all three of our girls gave everything they had and came out victorious against the Mighty Romania.
Romania is a strong team and had seed number 4. Coming into the game, the Indian team was considered the underdog. This pressure increases when you realize that this is the first time that the Indian team has been part of the team event in Olympic history since the event was introduced in 2008.
What A Match!
The Indian team started brilliantly as the duo of Sreeja and Archana won the first doubles game 3-0. They were far more dominant against a tough team and won against all odds.
After that, Manika made light work of Bernadette Szőcs who is ranked number 10 currently. Manika never let her get in the game and showed everyone why ranking does not matter when you are against her.
India was leading 2-0 and needed just 1 more win to secure the match. But Sreeja and Archana lost their matches consecutively as the Romanian team started a little bit of a comeback.

With the score being 2-2 Manika entered the court once again. She must have been under a lot of pressure but the way she played, it looked like she had nothing to worry about.
In a tough match against Adina Diaconu, Manika defeated her by 3-2 in the final set and scripted history. Some of the shots that she played in her two matches have left everyone in awe of her. One thing is clear now no matter what you can’t take this trio of Indian girls lightly. It will be an amazing feeling to follow them during their remaining journey in the Paris Olympics 2024.
