Paris Olympics 2024: In the past few weeks, Vinesh Phogat has received support from all over the world. After getting suspended before the 50 kg freestye wrestling final, Vinesh was placed last in the event.
This progression has left many athletes in the world stunned and they showed their support to the Indian wrestler. Vinesh is already being celebrated like a hero in her country and everyone wants a silver medal for her.
Vinesh herself appealed to the CAS coury with Harish Salve as her representative and their are some positive advancements in the case. But CAS is constantly deferring the date for judgement and now they will announce their decision on August 16, 9:30 PM IST.
‘They Have Snatched Her Medal’
Many top athletes have come forward and supported Vinesh while condemning the decision of disqualification. Former American Olympic gold medallist Jordan Burroughs, Nigerian women’s wrestling coach Purity Akuh, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Paris Olympics 2024 gold medalist Rei Higuchi are some of the names.
You can add the name of Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh to that list. The ‘Wall Of India’ was furious over the predicament and demanded justice for her fellow athlete.
Sreejesh stated “There are two views, one being an athlete she deserves a medal, getting into the final, they snatched it from her, silver for sure. She was strong. If I was in her situation, I don’t what I would have done.
The second part is just different because you have Olympic rules and the Indian athletes know what is happening there and they should be ready for that. They shouldn’t give any chance to the federation, to the organising committee, to the International Olympic Committee (OC).”
Paris Olympics 2024: ‘Hiding Her Pain’
Sreejesh also told an incident between him and Vinesh that showed everyone how tough Vinesh is. “The next day before our bronze medal match I met her and she said ‘Bhai good luck, play well’. I felt like she was hiding her pain with that smile. She is a real fighter.”
