PM Modi: In a momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the Indian men’s and women’s chess teams at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi, on Wednesday, just two days after their groundbreaking victories at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest. India clinched its first-ever gold medals in the tournament, making history.

Interactive Session with Chess Champions

During the meeting, the Prime Minister interacted with chess stars such as R Vaishali, D Harika, Tania Sachdev, Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi, and Praggnanandhaa. The players gifted a chessboard to PM Modi as a token of appreciation. The interaction included a quick chess match between Praggnanandhaa and Erigaisi, which captivated the Prime Minister.

Celebrations Across Sports Fraternity

The Indian chess contingent’s achievement was widely celebrated, and the Sports Ministry shared a video of the team heading to meet the Prime Minister. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) praised the champions on social media, expressing pride in their accomplishment: “Super proud of you champs! Keep India’s flag flying high on the global stage.”

Historic Gold Medals at the Chess Olympiad

On Sunday, the men’s team triumphed over Slovenia, while the women’s team secured victory against Azerbaijan, both clinching their first-ever gold medals at the prestigious international chess tournament. This landmark achievement reflects the rising strength of Indian chess on the world stage.
