Chess World Cup 2023 Final: The Fairy Tale run has ended as Praggnanandhaa fell short in the finals against World No.1 Magnus Carlsen. All Of India’s eyes were on the 18-year-old prodigy.

Even though he fell short, by no means it was a bad match. With Magnus Carlsen winning his first-ever World Cup, it was a huge achievement as he added another silverware to his trophy cabinet.

Even after losing the finals, the Indian prodigy will not go empty-handed as his miraculous run to the finals has helped him qualify for the Candidates tournament. He became only the second Indian to do so.

A Spirited Chess World Cup 2023 Final

Carlsen and Pragg had played out two draws on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pragg failed to win on Tuesday while playing with Whites while Carlsen deliberately played out a draw on Wednesday to get an extra data rest.

After being on the back foot for quite some time in the first game, The Norwegian took the command later and won the first game. The second game was proper domination by the World No.1. In the end he clinched the Chess World Cup 2023 Final and added the missing piece to his trophy cabinet.

A Miraculous Run

It was an amazing run by Pragg till the finals as he defeated both World No.2 and World No.3 to reach the finals. He could have become the first player to defeat all top three ranked players in a single tournament.

Pragg had also played 9 more matches than Carlsen as both of his quarter and semi-final bouts went to tie-breakers. He became the first Indian after Vishwanath Anand to reach the finals and could have joined him on the champion wall as well.

Vishwanath Anand went on social media to show his appreciation for the brilliant performance by the youngster.
