The cricketing community is ablaze with rumours regarding Rahul Dravid’s potential successor as his time as head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team draws to a close after the T20 World Cup in 2024. Gautam Gambhir, a former opener for India, has emerged as a strong candidate among the well-known personalities under consideration. His coach, Sanjay Bhardwaj, firmly believes that if Gambhir takes on this role, India is destined to win the World Cup.
Gambhir’s Potential as Head Coach
A major contributor to India’s 2011 World Cup victory, Gautam Gambhir has been gaining a lot of respect from both cricket fans and former players. His knowledge and strategic aptitude are considered to be great benefits to the team. Sanjay Bhardwaj, who has closely worked with Gambhir, voiced his belief in Gambhir’s ability. “If Gautam Gambhir will be the coach of the team for 3-4 years, India will surely win a World Cup. It will be a very good feeling if my student coaches Team India,” Bhardwaj told ANI.
India’s Current World Cup Journey
The Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, has been playing some amazing T20 World Cup matches. India has dominated Group A, going undefeated thus far and winning matches against Pakistan, Ireland, and co-hosts the USA. Their last group stage match against Canada washed out. In the Super 8, India maintained their incredible run, defeating Bangladesh by 50 runs and defeating Afghanistan by 47 runs.
Strong Performances Bolster Hopes
Key players like Jasprit Bumrah have strengthened India’s bowling attack, which Bhardwaj highlighted as a crucial improvement. “We have been performing very well. Earlier, our bowling attack was not good. But now our bowling attack has also become good with pacers like Jasprit Bumrah. I hope that we will win the World Cup after 12 years,” he added.
Upcoming Challenges
As India prepares to face Australia in their final Super 8 game, the team aims to maintain its unbeaten streak. With players like Suryakumar Yadav delivering powerful performances, scoring 53 runs in 28 balls against Afghanistan, India’s prospects look bright.
