PSL 2023: During the 2023 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Friday, one of the most memorable performances in the tournament’s history took place. Azam Khan, a player for Islamabad United, gave a phenomenal performance at the National Stadium in Karachi, scoring 97 runs in just 42 balls. His incredible knock was unfortunately cut short before he could achieve a century, leaving him just three runs shy of the milestone.
Azam Khan’s blistering inning in front of father
Khan’s amazing innings was particularly noteworthy because it came against the Quetta Gladiators, a team led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, and coached by none other than his own father, the legendary Pakistani cricketer Moin Khan. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, Khan put on a remarkable display of skill and sportsmanship, earning the admiration of fans and players alike.
Islamabad United had a slow start to their innings, losing two wickets in the first 19 deliveries and then their captain, Shadab Khan, shortly after the powerplay. Colin Munro’s departure left the team at 77 for 4 at the halfway mark. However, the team soon picked up the pace and finished with an impressive total of 220 runs for six wickets.
Azam Khan put on an incredible display of skill and power, scoring 97 runs in just 42 balls. His impressive knock included nine boundaries and eight maximums, with 87 of his runs coming in the last 10 overs and 39 in the slog overs.
Azam’s performance was particularly noteworthy for the way he built up momentum as the innings progressed. After a slow start, he kicked off the back 10 with a boundary against Mohammad Nawaz, and then continued to score at an incredible rate. The final 10 overs of Islamabad’s innings produced an impressive 143 runs, with Azam leading the charge.

After completing his half-century, Azam gestured to his father, Moin Khan, who was seated in the Quetta dugout. He tapped his chest and pointed towards him as a mark of respect and tribute. Moin, a former Pakistani cricketer and the coach of the Quetta Gladiators, reacted by applauding Azam’s fiery knock, despite the fact that it came at the expense of his own team.
Islamabad United won the match by 63 runs as Quetta Gladiators were all out for 157 with five balls remaining.
