PV Sindhu: The past few months have been tough for PV Sindhu in her professional career. She has been underwhelming in the past few months and was not able to perform to her best quality.
But there is a reason why she is called the comeback queen. The Double Olympic Medalist once again made a huge comeback in the Malaysia Masters Semi-Finals to defeat Busanan Ongbamrungphan Busanan Ongbamrungphan 13-21, 21-16, 21-12 and reached her first final of the year.
Sindhu has not reached a final since the 2023 Madrid Spain Masters, where she was runner-up. It is a golden opportunity for her to win her first Masters since the 2022 Singapore Open.
PV Sindhu: Comeback Queen
Sindhu was suffering from a knee injury earlier in the season and it was visible in her game. She was out for four months due to injury, but she has made her comeback sensationally.
She had an unimpressive record of 10-6 before entering the Malaysia Masters, but this tournament has been amazing for her. She defeated top seed Han Yue in the quarter-finals in just 55 minutes to enter the semis.
And she was once again dominating in the semis as well. It was not as one-sided as the Quarters, but after 88 minutes, Sindhu toughed out a sensational victory. It was her 18th victory over Busanan.
A New Record
Sindhu is eyeing that gold medal in the upcoming Paris Olympics. She has won a silver and a bronze in her previous Olympics participation. Before that, she would like to conquer Malaysia Masters and will face World No. 7 Wang Zhi Yi in the finals.
With her win over top seed Han Yue at the Malaysia Masters 2024, PV Sindhu has surpassed Saina Nehwal to become the Indian shuttler with the most wins in the women’s singles division in the BWF circuit. Saina Nehwal had 451 wins in her career.
