Rajashree Swain: The police reported that on Friday, 26-year-old Odisha cricket player Rajashree Swain was discovered hanging from a tree in a dense jungle in the Cuttack district. Since January 11, the cricketer was reported to be missing. Near the jungle, her scooter was discovered abandoned. DCP Pinak Mishra said, “A case of unnatural death has been registered in the matter. We found her body hanging from a tree in Gurudijhatia forest in Athagarh area. We will probe the death from all angles.”
Swain could not make it to the squad
The post-mortem report will make it obvious what caused Swain’s death, according to Mishra. The Puri district cricketer came to this training camp to prepare for an upcoming national competition in Puducherry, which is being hosted by the Odisha Cricket Association. Swain, however, was unable to get a spot on the 16-person squad that was chosen for the competition.
Swain’s roommate stated that, “She was seen crying on Wednesday evening after the names of team members were announced, and went missing from the hotel, where we had all put up for the training session, shortly after.” Coach Pushpanjali Banerjee filed a missing person report at the Mangalabag police station in Cuttack after unable to reach Swain on the phone.
Rajashree Swain ‘s family claims that she was murdered
Right-arm fast bowler and middle-order hitter Swain’s family claimed that she was killed as “as the body bore injury marks and her eyes were damaged”. Additionally, they said that Swain was passed over for a spot on the squad despite performing better than many others who were chosen.
CEO of the organisation Subrat Behera expressed astonishment over the cricketer’s passing and claimed the selection process was quite open. “If there was prejudice, how is that she found a place in the 25-member probable team, which attended the camp,” Behera added.
