Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Eight-time champions Karnataka delivered a dominant performance, trouncing Uttarakhand by an innings and 281 runs in the quarterfinal match of the Ranji Trophy. The match, played on Friday, saw Karnataka emerge victorious and secure a spot in the semifinals.
Uttarakhand’s disappointing performance
Uttarakhand’s second innings was marked by poor batting, with the team only adding 103 runs to their overnight score of 106 for 3, ultimately being bowled out for 209 in 73.4 overs on the fourth day of the match. Swapnil Singh was the top scorer for Uttarakhand with 51 off 100 balls.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Gopal was the star player for Karnataka. After scoring an unbeaten 161 with the bat in the team’s first innings total of 606, he returned with figures of 3/26 in Uttarakhand’s second innings, securing the player-of-the-match award.
Other key contributors for Karnataka included Vijaykumar Vyshak (3/55), Vidwath Kaverappa (2/30), and M Venkatesh (2/44), who also took wickets. In the first innings, Karnataka shined with the ball, dismissing Uttarakhand for a mere 116 runs. Venkatesh was the standout bowler, taking five wickets for 36 runs.
Karnataka batters put on a strong show
Karnataka’s batting was also strong, with Ravikumar Samarth (82), skipper Mayank Agarwal (83), Devdutt Padikkal (69), and Nikin Jose (62) all scoring half-centuries, in addition to Gopal’s unbeaten ton. With this victory, Karnataka will be looking to add to their eight Ranji Trophy titles and reclaim the domestic crown, which they last won in the 2014-15 season.
