Ravi Shastri: Ravi Shastri was in no mood for nonsense when talking about Team India’s future. In an interview with The Week, Ravi Shastri bluntly answered all the questions regarding who should be India’s next captain.
He also praised Sanju Samson and stated how disappointed he would be if he did not achieve something big in his career. Ravi Shastri was optimistic about Samson’s chance in the West Indies tour and hopes that he will make full use of it.
Ravi Shastri On The Next White Ball Captain
There have been lots of rumors after World Test Championship final that Rohit Sharma will leave captaincy. Reports have also come out stating that captaincy will be divided across the format, which could see Rohit opting out of white ball captaincy.
The latest report states Hardik Pandya as the strongest contender for the role. And with his recent rise and maturity, selectors also want him to play tests. When Ravi Shastri was asked about it, he declined the idea of Pandya playing a test.
“His body cannot cope with Test cricket. Let’s be very clear about that. After the World Cup, if his body is fit enough, he should take over the captaincy in white-ball cricket,” Ravi Shastri stated.
It looks like everything is set for Pandya to take over white ball captaincy in the future. If everything goes right, we will see him leading the Blue Squad in the future. And considering the job he has done at Gujarat Titans, we know he will be successful.

Samson With Golden Opportunity
Ravi Shastri was also optimistic about Sanju Samson. Sanju has been given a golden opportunity in the Indian squad. Reports have come out stating Iyer and KL Rahul will be out of Asia Cup 2023. And as a wicketkeeper-batsman, this is Samson’s chance to make an impact.
With Iyer even doubtful for World Cup, if Samson performs, he can also cement his place in the World Cup Squad.
“He is a match-winner. There is something that is missing. I will be disappointed if he does not finish his career all guns blazing. It is like when I was the coach; I would have been disappointed if Rohit Sharma had not played in my side as a regular Test player. Hence, his opening the batting. I feel similar to Sanju.” The former Indian head coach stated.
