Ravi Shastri schools Suryakumar Yadav says ‘ODIs are two-and-a-half times the size of T20Is’

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has been the name synonymous to Indian middle-order this year. The Number 4 batter in the T20Is has been in some sensational form and went on to become the number batter in the format in very less span of time. But Suryakumar has not proved himself in the bigger formats. In the recently concluded ODI series vs New Zealand, the batter was given a chance to hold the middle order in the absence of senior batter Virat Kohli.

Suryakumar failed to deliver in all the chances he got and many questioned his style of playing. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has also commented on Yadav’s spot in the ODI. Shastri took a jibe by saying ODI is two and a half times longer than T20Is.

“That can happen. But what he can learn is that this is two-and-a-half time the size of a T20 game. He has got that many more balls to play. He can wait that bit longer. His USP is total devastation towards the end of the innings. He has got ample time to reach 30-40 before that with a lot more number of balls. So, in his case, it’s about giving himself that extra bit of time. That impact quality that is needed can wait a little bit because this game is a little bit longer. And then the conditions,” said Shastri on Prime Video.

“At times, you might be in the best form of your life but you have got to respect the condition. This is a great game. It doesn’t wait for anyone. You don’t respect the conditions, sooner or later, you will come back to respect it,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav is not the part of India’s upcoming ODI series in Bangladesh.
