Ravindra Jadeja: After India won the T20 World Cup, team captain and all-around talent Ravindra Jadeja declared his retirement from Twenty20 international cricket. Jadeja announced his exit from the game’s shortest format, following in the footsteps of India’s batting legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The all-rounder announced his retirement on his official Instagram account.

Retirement Announcement

“With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats . Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support,” wrote Jadeja.

After joining the squad under MS Dhoni’s guidance, the spin-bowling all-rounder has advanced significantly. However, he has not been able to find his rhythm in the just finished competition.

Career Statistics

He has played in 74 matches since making his debut against Sri Lanka in February 2009, scoring 515 runs overall and claiming 54 wickets in the shortest format. In a 2022 match against England, he had his finest batting performance, scoring 46 off 29 deliveries, which was the difference as they won by 49 runs. His finest bowling performance with the ball came in the 2021 T20 World Cup against Scotland, where he recorded figures of 3/15 in Dubai.

In Tests and One-Day Internationals, Jadeja will still represent the team and is still an important player. Due to injury, Jadeja, one of the few all-format players on the Indian team, was unable to participate in the T20 World Cup in 2022. India lost to England 10 wickets in the tournament’s semifinal.

After more than a year away from the format, he made his T20I comeback in December of last year, indicating the team management’s plan to bring him back as the side got ready for the T20 World Cup. In the 2024 edition, he participated in every game for India.
