Ravindra Jadeja: According to rumours, India’s selection for the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh may include middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav. He is likely to replace the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who is currently suffering from a knee injury.
Considering Yadav’s consistent performances in the shortest format over the past few months, sources inside the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) believe that the newly established selection committee or the Indian team management may pick to utilise Yadav in the Bangladesh Tests.
Ravi Shastri stands in favour of Yadav
Earlier, Ravi Shastri, a former head coach of India, had argued in favour of Suryakumar Yadav’s selection in the Indian Test team, referring to him as a “three-format player” who is capable of performing admirably in red-ball cricket.
Ravi Shastri has said, “I think he is a three-format player. I know they don’t talk about him for Test cricket. Let me tell you. This guy can play Test cricket and he can surprise a few. Send him there at No. 5 and let him stir it up.”
The Mumbai cricketer has a remarkable red-ball record as well, scoring over 5,000 runs at an average of 44.01 in First-Class play. He has 26 half-centuries and 14 centuries under his name. Suryakumar was a member of India’s Test teams for the home and away series against New Zealand and England, is yet to make his red-ball debut.
Ravindra Jadeja ‘s wife is contesting elections
Recently, Ravindra’s wife, Raviba had opted to stand in Gujarat elections 2022 from Jamnagar for BJP. He has been busy in campaigning for her from last few days. His sister Naynaba who is an active Congress worker is promoting the latter party for the election.
India to play against Bangladesh next month
Ravindra Jadeja, who underwent knee surgery after being disqualified from the Asia Cup 2022, might not be fully healthy for the Bangladesh Tests, according to BCCI sources. The Indian team will play Bangladesh in two Test matches. From December 14 to 18, the first Test will be played in Chittagong, and from December 22 to 26, the final Test will be played in Mirpur.
