Ravindra Jadeja: After a prolonged absence from cricket, Indian cricket sensation Ravindra Jadeja made his return to the field in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match between his domestic team Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Ravindra Jadeja fails in comeback match
Despite a lacklustre performance on the bowling front, where he claimed only one wicket in 24 overs, fans had high hopes for a resurgence with the bat. Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed as Jadeja could only muster 15 runs from 23 balls, with three boundaries to his name. He was ultimately dismissed by Baba Aparajith in the 47th over, leaving his team in a difficult position in the match.
It’s been a while since the world has seen the dynamic skills of Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on the international stage, with his last appearance for the national team being in the Group A match of the Asia Cup T20 tournament against Hong Kong in the United Arab Emirates last year. Unfortunately, a knee injury forced him to miss the remainder of the tournament and kept him out of action since then.
But the 34-year-old star is now making a comeback, as he has been selected to join the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series against Australia, set to take place in Nagpur (February 9–13) and Delhi (February 17–21). Fans eagerly anticipate his return and hope to see him make a significant impact in these highly-anticipated matches.
Tamil Nadu inching towards win
The match between Tamil Nadu and Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B had an exciting start as Tamil Nadu’s skipper Pradosh Paul won the toss and decided to take first strike. His team put on a strong performance led by half-centuries from Baba Indrajith (66), Vijay Shankar (53) and Sharukh Khan (50) resulting in a formidable total of 324 runs on the board. Saurashtra’s Yuvrajsinh Dodiya was a standout performer, dismissing four Tamil Nadu batters. In their turn to bat, Saurashtra’s struggles were evident, as they were struggling at 179 for 8 in 69 overs at lunch and still trail Tamil Nadu’s total by 154 runs.
