RCB vs DC WPL 2023: The starry Delhi Capitals have triumphed in their first ever match of the tournament with a victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Riding high on the knocks from Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning, the team posted a total of 223 runs in 20 overs. The total proved to be a little too much for RCB as they could muster 163/8 runs in 20 overs, giving DC a big victory. USA’s Norris picked a fifer resulting in the defeat of RCB. The match appeared similar to the first match of the tournament where Mumbai Indians scored a massive total and Gujarat Giants fell like a pack of cards.
RCB falls short in big chase
The chase started well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they smashed 54 runs for the loss of one wicket in the powerplay. Sophie Devine was dismissed first after scoring 14 off 11 balls, by Alice Capsey when Shafali Verma pulled off a stunning catch. Skipper Smriti Mandhana looked in great touch but she could also core just 35 runs off 23 balls. During her knock, she hit five boundaries and a six.
Ellyse Perry played a good cameo scoring 31 off 19 balls, hitting five boundaries. None of the other players could do a significant impact. Richa Ghosh was out as well after scoring just 2 off 4 balls, while Kanika scored 0, Asha scored 2. Knight and Schutt’s cameos in the end powered RCB to a respectable total as they scored 34 and 30 respectively.
Tara Norris threw a good spell as she took a fifer and gave away 29 runs in her four-over spell. Alice Capsey picked a couple of wickets as well. While Shikha Pandey also grabbed a wicket.
Aggressive batting by Delhi Capitals
Earlier, RCB won the toss and opt to bowl first, however, the decision backfired significantly. Delhi Capitals posted a massive 223 runs on board. Shafali scored 84 off 45 balls while Meg Lanning hit 72 off 43 balls. Marizanne Kepp played a blistering cameo as she scored 39 runs off 17 balls while Jemimah scored 22 off 15 balls. Heather Knight picked up two wickets in the same over and was the only bowler to pick a wicket as well.
