RCB vs MI IPL 2023: In the return fixture between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Virat Kohli was dismissed for 1 by Jason Behrendorff. This match held significant importance as both teams were tied on 10 points before the game, and Kohli had already registered six half-centuries in the current year, highlighting his crucial role in the encounter. However, he could not do anything significant and was dismissed in the first over itself. However, soon after his dismissal netizens took to twitter and started to troll him. Amongst them, LSG player Naveen Ul Haq also joined in with a cryptic story on Instagram.
Kohli dismissed in the first over
In an attempt to take an early offensive approach against Jason Behrendorff in the first over, Virat Kohli ended up edging the fifth ball, resulting in a catch taken by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. Following the catch taken by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan, he immediately signalled to Rohit Sharma to opt for the Decision Review System (DRS). Without any hesitation, the Mumbai Indians skipper decided to review the decision.
Upon reviewing the replay, it became evident that there was a noticeable spike in the UltraEdge technology, leading to Virat Kohli returning to the pavilion after scoring a mere 1 run off four balls. Kohli appeared genuinely astonished and disbelieving as he watched the replay from the dressing room. Initially, the on-field umpire dismissed the appeal made by Mumbai Indians, but Rohit Sharma immediately decided to review the decision. Television replays clearly indicated that the ball had deflected off Kohli’s bat.
This turn of events stood in stark contrast to Virat Kohli’s previous encounter against Mumbai Indians on April 2, where he played a pivotal role in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s pursuit of 172 runs. On that occasion, Kohli formed a formidable 148-run opening partnership with captain Faf du Plessis.
