Mohammad Amir: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee has asked fast bowler Mohammad Amir to prepare himself for a comeback to the national team. Amir had earlier announced his retirement from international cricket two years ago.
Mohammed Amir’s turnaround
As a teenager, Mohammad Amir had a remarkable debut in 2009. However, he was later found guilty of being involved in spot-fixing during a Test match against Australia in England, which resulted in a five-year ban. After serving his sentence and ban, Amir made an outstanding return to international cricket in 2016. He played an instrumental role in Pakistan’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
Mohammad Amir, the left-arm pacer, has been absent from the Pakistani cricket team since 2020. He had reportedly left the team due to disagreements with the then-head coach Misbah ul Haq. Amir has played 36 Test matches and taken 119 wickets, 61 One Day Internationals (ODIs) with 81 wickets, and 50 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) with 59 wickets.
Mohammad Amir has been participating in T20 leagues across the globe, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), since his retirement from the national team. According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) acting chief, Najam Sethi, is eager to offer Amir one more opportunity to represent the country in international cricket.
Mohammad Amir to make a comeback?
The PCB’s selection committee has urged Mohammad Amir to concentrate on his cricket and avoid making unwarranted statements to the media, which could cause controversy. Additionally, they advised him to stay in shape and train rigorously, as the board may soon request him to end his retirement and join the national squad.
