Ricky Ponting: In a serious turn of events, Ricky Ponting has just revealed that he was offered the job of England Head Coach before Brendon McCullum. The former New Zealand skipper is the current England Coach, and his cricket brand is referred to as ‘Bazball.’

After the drastic Ashes loss of 4-0, England were desperately searching for a new head coach. McCullum took England through a drastic change, with even Joe Root opting out as test captain. Major chunks of staff were also changed.

I Was Approached First

In Guerilla Cricket Podcast, Ponting revealed that he was offered the job of Head coach before Brendon McCullum by Rob Key. Rob Key was appointed as the new director’s of men cricket for England.

“I actually got asked before Brendon took the job,” Ponting told Guerilla Cricket this week. He also revealed that Robert Key gave him some calls as soon as he was appointed as the director. But Ponting declined all the offers.

Not Ready To Do Full-Time Coaching

Ponting stated that he is not ready to do full-time coaching. He is a family man and likes to spend time with his family. And getting a full-time coaching job will prove a hurdle in that. Ricky Ponting is coaching Delhi Capitals in IPL right now.

“I did take some calls from Robert Key as soon as he took over that job. But I’m just not ready for a full-time international coaching job where I’m at in my life. Having traveled as much as I have, with young kids now I just don’t want to be away as much as I was.” The former Australian captain stated.
