India beat West Indies by 6 wickets in the first match of the three-match ODI series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the chase of 177, India’s new opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 84 runs for the first wicket. Captain Rohit returned to the pavilion after adding 60 runs to his name in his first full-time captaincy stint in ODIs. Kishan batted well but fall short as he returned with an individual score of 28.
Virat Kohli failed to score a hundred yet again as he was dismissed at the personal score of 8 in the series opener.
Later Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda did the finishing job for the home team as the duo added 62 runs for the fifth wicket and guided India to victory. Both the players are throwing their bid for their permanent place in the middle-order.
Suryakumar scored 34 runs and was unbeaten while Deepak Hooda too remained not out with his 26 runs on his debut.
Earlier, Indian bowlers ripped off the West Indies batting line-up as they bundled the Caribbean team at 176 with more than 6 overs remaining.
Yuzvender Chahal was the pick of the Indian bowlers on the day as the leg-spinner returned with the figures of 4/49 while Washington Sundar picked three wickets, Prasidh Krishna got two and Siraj scalped one.
Jason Holder top-scored for West Indies as he scored 57 runs.
The second ODI will be played at the same venue on Wednesday followed by the third one on Friday.
