Captain Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has been praised a lot after the Indian team defeated New Zealand and entered the finals. Rohit is one of the best batsmen of India and due to his excellent captaincy, he has made the Indian team win all the matches of the World Cup 2023. But this journey was not so easy for Rohit Sharma because after the 2007 T20 World Cup, Rohit did not get a chance in ICC tournaments and today he is leading the team by becoming the captain of the Indian team. Let us take a look at Rohit Sharma’s journey;
Here’s how Rohit Sharma performed in World Cups
Rohit Sharma was not selected for the India squad for the 2011 World Cup which made him sad. However, India won the tournament but there was a player who was making himself a better player and that was Rohit Sharma. He played his first World Cup in 2015 and stunned everyone with his performance. India advanced to the semifinals, where Australia triumphed over them. Sharma finished the tournament with 330 runs and a century, including a 137 against Bangladesh in the quarterfinal.
Sharma was named vice-captain of India’s team for the 2019 World Cup in England on April 15, 2019. He made 122 runs in the first game against South Africa, which included his 12,000th run in international cricket. He then went on to get hundreds against Bangladesh, England, and Pakistan. Rohit equalled Tendulkar’s record for the most hundreds (6) in all World Cup matches by hitting yet another century in the match against Sri Lanka, making history as the first batter to score five centuries in a single World Cup tournament. He broke the records for the most international sixes in all forms and the most number sixes in a calendar year at the 2023 World Cup.
